Shamrock Shake with Bacon

Shamrock Shake with Bacon

Remember Shamrock Shakes from McDonald’s?

Now, I haven’t been to McDonald’s in years, but I can still vaguely remember the minty joy of a Shamrock Shake! 🙂

I’ve re-created the Shamrock Shake. Except healthier. And with bacon.

Even McDonald’s didn’t think of adding bacon.

St. Patrick & the leprechauns give it 2 green thumbs up

(DISCLAIMER: they may have added booze)

But I won’t promise you it tastes just like the original.

Because it’s lacking the bestselling McDonald’s flavors: processed sugar, refined grains, GMO dairy, preservatives, artificial colors & flavors, msg, soy, etc.

Then again…

I can say that it’s still rich and filling with a sweet, minty goodness. And it’s got a nice natural green color — especially if you add spirulina, as I did.

P.S. Another benefit of not buying a Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s is that you can add booze

But I like it just fine without booze. (I know, I know, where’s my Irish spirit?)

  • leftover bacon, cold & crispy
  • 3/4 cup ice
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 can coconut milk (full-fat, chilled)
  • 1/2 – 1 tsp mint extract
  • spinach / kale / spirulina (for more green power!)
  • 2 tbsps ground flax / chia / psyllium (to thicken)

Optional extras:

  • scoop of protein powder
  • 2 tbsps cream cheese / coconut cream, to thicken
  • sweetener, to taste
  • booze (creme de menthe or Irish-approved)

  1. In a blender or food processor, pulse cold coconut milk, ice, and avocado.
  2. And greens. Blend.
  3. Add optional extras, if using. Blend
  4. Add mint extract/leaves and sweetener, to taste.
  5. Stir in crumbled bacon.
