Bacon Salmon Garlic Bok Choy

Bacon Salmon Garlic Bok Choy

Bok choy is becoming one of my favorite veggies.

Bok choy really “shines” when sauteed in bacon grease.

And yes, I do mean that it actually looks shiny … because it’s coated in bacon grease. Bahahaha.

Add some garlic and protein-of-your-choice to the pan and you’ve wisely upgraded an otherwise simple vegetable to a shiny AND golden meal.

Thanks, bacon.

  • 2 tbsps bacon grease
  • crumbled bacon (optional)
  • cooked/canned salmon (or other protein)
  • bok choy, chopped
  • (lots of) fresh garlic cloves, chopped or pressed
  • fresh lemon or lime juice
  • salt & pepper, to taste

  1. Fry bacon, drain on paper towels, set aside to cool in freezer. Reserve grease.
  2. Chop bok choy (stems and leaves!). Chop or press fresh garlic cloves.
  3. Saute bok choy and garlic cloves in melted bacon grease until wilted.
  4. Add in cooked/canned salmon, until warm.
  5. Remove from heat, crumble bacon on top. Squeeze lemon/lime juice and sprinkle with salt/pepper, to taste.

  1. This I gotta try! I’ve been eying bok choy at the store, just not knowing what to do with it. In your photo I notice dark green (like cooked spinach green) and light green “ends” (like the ends of the bok choy). Is the dark green just the leafy ends of the bok choy? Do they wilt up dark green like spinach? Sorry if that’s a stupid question! Thanks for posting this!

    • oh gosh, not a stupid question at all!

Yep, you are exactly right! The dark green parts are the chopped leafy ends. They do wilt up a bit like spinach (but they don’t get quite so….soggy?)

I’m really enjoying the bok choy — hope you do too! If you figure out other good ways to cook it, let me know! 🙂

  2. I’ve been looking for a way to cook up the bok choy from my CSA box….this could be perfect!

This was a “Let’s see what’s over at the bacon site” discovery. Sounds like a plan!
