Real Bacon Bits

by 365daysofbacon

I know you never-ever-ever have extra bacon (it’s an oxymoron). I also know that you respect bacon in it’s natural form, and would never-ever-ever defile its crisp, perfect form.

But, then again, say you were to have extra bacon. Say you were feeling a little … errr … destructive.

Bacon bits. REAL bacon bits.

Yes, it seems sacrilegious to grind up this most holy of meat candies.

But I promise I’ll turn my head the other way.

Bacon bits are easy, versatile, and keep a while in the fridge. I like em’ in salads, sauces, dressings, soups, dips, etc. More to come on that.

(Not to be confused with the Oscar Mayer brand “Real” Bacon Bits, which include all those “real” nitrates, phosphates, and artificial flavors. Sick. Don’t use bacon with those ingredients!)

  1. Cook bacon, extra crispy.
  2. Get the excess grease off with paper towels.
  3. Stick in the freezer for a few minutes — this will help it cool and harden faster.
  4. Chop into desired chunk size in a chopper, food processor, Magic bullet, etc. Or rip it into pieces.

  1. Or you can put them in a paper bag and crumble it thoroughly. The lack of uniform size somehow makes it feel more home-made.

    I like Bacon!
